Raised in Ville Platte, Louisiana, Doug Frugé’s Cajun background presented him with an interest in all aspects of Louisiana living. He was influenced by other New Orleans artists and decided to begin his self-taught painting hobby by capturing the beautiful outdoors and historical architecture of his home state on canvas.
Doug refers to his individual style as “Optimistic Impressionism.” When painting, he aims to bring out the best of his subject by enhancing colors and adding texture and depth. Dough makes sure to include purposeful “imperfections” that give the work its own original identity, painting in intended smudges and tears.
Bridges, plantation homes, beaches, historic buildings, coastal fishing waters—Doug’s paintings seek to capture what life is all about. Through his heavy texture in oil or acrylic, he hopes that viewers enjoy the paintings as much as he has enjoyed painting them.
